Sow-a-long : Practical sessions for new or improving growers (4 sessions in total)
These 2 hour hands on sessions will give you the skills and confidence to grow healthy plants from seed. We reccomen you come to all sessions however you can book on just one that suits.
In this first session we will cover:
Seed sowing - timings, temperatures, varieties, watering, multisowing, seed depth, use of seed trays and what compost to use.
We will work in the polytunnel protected from the elements and tea will be provided. You have the option to leave them to live under our care until ready to plant out. We will provide compost and seeds, you can buy a very strong seed tray from us at an additional cosy of £8 for 60 cells or bring your own. Feel free to bring your own additional seeds.
The second session on 2nd march will cover:
Making a new bed, mulching, taking cuttings, companion plants - flowers & herbs, sowing for benefical insects, starting compost heaps, nettle and worm tea.
The third session on 16th March will cover:
Sowing tender/warm weather plants, direct sowing of carrot and parsnips, bed preparation, row covers
The fourth session on 30th march will cover:
Planting out, spacing, watering, protecting crops from animals, sowing of heat loving summer crops.
Please wear appropriate footwear for the farm. Although we will be in the polytunnel for part of the session dress for outdoors as we will also be outside in the garden. We do not provide gardening gloves as we tend not to use them very often so please bring your own if you would like them! Sessions are non refundable but can be given to a friend if unable to attend last minute.
